Lisa McPherson Robinson, MSW, LCSW-C, BCD
Board Certified Diplomate
I am a psychotherapist in private practice in Bethesda, Maryland. I offer individual, couple and group psychotherapy. I work primarily with adults who are coping with a wide range of challenges. These include relationship issues, anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, search for meaning and authenticity, and the challenges that accompany the transitions of every day life. I also work with individuals and couples who are struggling with a wide variety of sexual concerns.
I have a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Catholic University in Washington, DC, and I am a Board Certified Diplomate Licensed Clinical Social Worker (BCD). I completed a two-year intensive family and couple therapy program and four years of education and training in human sexuality and sex therapy. I have been a psychotherapist for thirty-three years.
I am an interactive and relational psychotherapist with a psychodynamic, humanistic and existential philosophy. You may fear that therapy will be a never ending archeological dig into your past. While psychodynamic therapy assumes early experiences and relationships influence who you are today, looking at your past is only helpful if early experiences negatively impact your ability to cope and live a meaningful life today.
My approach is collaborative and participatory. I believe our working relationship is the foundation of your therapy. I work to create a safe, consistent, and non-judgmental space so that you can talk about your concerns, thoughts and experiences. Psychotherapy has many potential benefits. It allows you time to explore the issues that are making it hard for you to achieve the things you would like to in your life and to understand yourself more fully. This process of self-discovery can be moving, challenging and extraordinarily useful.
